The boys did it! We WON the first North London Derby of the 2017/18 premier league season. It was at the Emirates Stadium and of course, it was a must to go! It was a big game especially as it was the first game after the International break. As from Thursday I was beginning to get that butterfly feeling in my stomach which is….. nerves. You must be thinking, why would I be feeling nervous about a football game?! This isn’t just any normal game, it’s a game against our direct rivals Tottenham, which every fan HATES. The desire to win is even more especially for bragging rights!
First of all the weather was horrid! Was that annoying spitting rain all day, and it was an early lunchtime kickoff, so it wasn’t the most pleasant of weathers for a Derby game.
From leaving the station and walking the route to the stadium there was a real buzz. Chants were being sung and real excitement and enthusiasm amongst the Arsenal fans. There was extra police which is necessary for a game like this and flares were being thrown around to.
When the teams came out the atmosphere was electric chants and boos everywhere, it was great. You can see how much this game means to the fans. From the get go there was a desire from the players. They were tracking back and putting pressure on the Tottenham players. They were creating chances in the first half. The first goal came from Mustafi, who received a simple assist, from the assist king himself Mesut Ozil. Mustafi headed it in beautifully, and the fans went MAD. The goal was at my end and all the players came to the corner flag to celebrate and pump up the fans more. Arsenal was on top and demonstrated an impressive positive start. Then in the 41st min, another goal came the Chilean himself Alexis Sanchez which was again assisted by our new striker Alexandra Lacazette. The link-up between Ozil, Lacazette and Sanchez is looking really promising. We were 2-0 up at halftime and it was such a convincing and promising start.
Our defensive and attacking play was the perfect combination, we outplayed Tottenham and made the highly talked team look like boys. The second half demonstrated the same desire and flare. We were creating chances and could have scored another two. An additional 4mins were added and when the final whistle went, there was a pure joy surrounding the stadium.
I was so happy with my team, and every player played with 100% passion and concentration. It is so difficult to choose a man of the match as there are big contenders. Our captain Laurent Koscielny showed a class defensive display putting his neck on the line. Then there is Mustafi who hasn’t played in the starting 11 for a while, came in and put a very strong display making crucial clearances and scoring the first goal to put us in lead. Then there is Mesut Ozil who showed his creative class being involved in the two goals and putting in a shift defensively too. Mustafi for me was my man of the match, as he really did great at the back and scored the first goal of the game.
All in all was a brilliant win and display from the boys. If they put this type of performance every week we can be a real threat to other teams. We have the team just have to put these displays week in week out. COYG xxx
